What to Expect from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
A simple, structured process designed to support healing safely and comfortably.
How It Works
During HBOT, you rest in a pressurized chamber and breathe 100% oxygen. The higher pressure allows oxygen to dissolve directly into your blood plasma, so it can reach tissue where circulation is limited.
That extra oxygen may help:
Support the repair of damaged or slow-healing tissue
Encourage new blood vessel growth
Help the body fight infection
It works with your body's natural healing process, not in place of it.
Before Your First Session
We start by understanding your situation. Your consultation includes a review of your medical history, your current condition, and any risks or contraindications.
We'll then explain whether HBOT is appropriate for you, how many sessions may be recommended, and what your plan would look like. If it's not a fit, we will tell you.
During a Session
At each visit, a team member checks your vitals and reviews what can and can't go into the chamber. Then you lie comfortably in a clear, single-person chamber.
As pressure builds, you may feel fullness in your ears, like on an airplane. Swallowing or yawning usually relieves it, and we'll coach you through it. The treatment itself is not typically painful.
A trained technician stays with you and can talk with you throughout. Most people watch a show, listen to music, or nap. A typical session lasts about 90 to 120 minutes.
Your Treatment Plan
HBOT is not a one-time treatment. Most conditions call for a series of sessions, often several times a week over a number of weeks. Depending on the condition, a plan may range from about 5–10 sessions to 40–60 or more. We'll adjust based on how you are healing, and you'll always know what to expect.
After Each Session
Your vitals are checked again before you go. Most people return to normal activities right away. Some feel relaxed, tired, or hungry afterward.
Healing is a process. Most improvement happens gradually over the course of treatment, not overnight.
Common Questions
Is it safe?
When used appropriately and under proper supervision, HBOT is considered a safe treatment. Like any medical treatment, it has possible side effects, which we review with you before you start.
Will I see immediate results?
Some people notice changes early, but most healing happens gradually over a series of treatments.
Do I need a referral?
Sometimes, especially when insurance is involved. We can help guide you. See Insurance & Costs.
